Blue Roo's Our Brisbane Story (From a Screenwriting perspective)
This screenwriting adventure started in late March 2025. I was actually employed to some extent by Blue Roo to assist them with the screenwriting process. And to my surprise, it wasn't what I had originally thought it would be.
So, I was originally thinking I was going to help write the script, but in fact, I was helping edit it. So the screenwriting mentorship consisted of three Zoom meetings, during which I met with Dale and Sarah Jackson over several months. I would typically receive emails from either Dale or Sarah in reference to the screenwriting of things on a Sunday night; I would then do the actual editing of the documents on the following Tuesday and Wednesday nights, if possible, because my left-hand writing support worker, Alice, was kindly helping me review the document before we did the edits. I do remember getting frustrated over the fact that emails were getting into my inbox because it seemed that I would be receiving them after the time I would be able to help out :( But I somehow found the time to edit the scripts and put together an amusing show for everybody to enjoy! If I were given another opportunity to work for Blue Roo again, I would try to do things differently.
The first Zoom meeting between the group of us was on Monday, the 24th of March 2025. During that first meeting, I was nervous because I didn't know what capacity they needed my help in. But after having one meeting, I got a clear understanding of where I stood and what my responsibilities would be at this stage. At this point, I was tasked with interviewing the Blue Roo cast. The second Zoom meeting was on the 12th of May 2025. I believe, by that second meeting, I had to write up the interviews from the cast members. In this second meeting, we reviewed what I had already submitted to Sarah, and she outlined what she wanted me to do over the next month and a half. It was more complicated to use Google Drive than to communicate with Sarah and Dale over Zoom. And the last one was on the 04th of August 2025. For most of the meeting, we went over various aspects of the show and worked to ensure everyone had an equal role in the script, which proved challenging. But, we did do the job successfully, and I do remember thinking to myself, " Is the screen right for everyone and suitable for the right actors/actresses.
But at the end of the day, everybody had fun with the script in their own way. nd really, after all the hard work was done, that's what really matters most.
Regards,
Stephanie :)
