Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital (Sneak Peek)

Image
This took place on Wednesday the 10th of May throughout the duration of my holiday in Caloundra. Angela, Irene and myself all paid a $2 donation, which allowed us access to the animal hospital. While we were in there we saw a koala who was being prepped for surgery to have a skin graft done because of it's run in with a spider of which had bitten it. We then saw a 4 month old baby Koala who was so cute.

My holiday at Toowoomba (2015)

This holiday took place towards the end of August 2015. Our Toowoomba adventure began somewhere between 12 noon and 4pm. We arrived at our luxurious accommodation promptly. My two carers Angela, Tegan and myself stayed at 21 on Hursley, a group of motel apartments located about 5 minutes out of town. After getting settled into our apartment, it was time for me to choose my bed buddy, of which as it turned out, Angela chose me. We took our adventure to the Darling Downs zoo on the Saturday, we saw a large variety of animals such as; Hamadryas Baboon, African Serval, Macaws, Pheasants, Peafowls, Iguanas, Tortoises, Capuchins, Snakes, Marmosets, Albino Wallabies, Brazilian Tapir, White Lions and a few more. On Sunday we went sightseeing around Toowoomba, which took us the majority of the day. We visited the botanical gardens, the towns main shopping centre and picnic point was our last stop before heading back to the motel and chilling out. Access photos from link below: https:/...

David Fleay Wildlife Park

This was yet another animal adventure of which Debbie accompanied me on but this time we had a special guest in the form of my father Peter. If my memory serves me correctly it was a rainy public holiday which is why I think we had our special guest in the first place. Our day revolved around Emu's, Eastern Grey Kangaroo's, Jabiroo's, Shingle back lizards, Olive pythons, a bird show and much more. Photos to come of my experience at David Fleay Wildlife Park if I can find them on my computer. Thanks Stephanie:)

Currumbin Wildlife Hospital (Open Day)

This fantastical animal adventure took place on the 31st of July last year when my carer Debbie and I went to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital (Open Day). It was a fun filled day for Debbie and I. I collected several different brochures which were from local animal conservation groups. We were then shown an X-Ray of an owl, which was very interesting because you don't realise how small built they are until you can't see their feathers. After that we were shown a glass bottle/ container that was full of hooks, lures, barbs and anything and everything else that fishermen or women might use to catch fish. Shortly after we returned home from the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital (Open Day) and it was back to the books (Veterinary Nursing Studies) I went. Photos to come of my experience at the (Open day) if I can find them on my computer. Thanks Stephanie:)

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

Our day was filled with animals from the get go, but this time it was mainly filled with birds, much to Tegan's delight (due to her love of birds, especially owls), alongside Currumbin's luscious bird aviary which made for a squawking day.Which was preceded by Koala's, Kangaroo's and water dragons on the path in front of us, as well as a multitude of other animals. Paradise Country (Theme Park)

Our day started off with a live show which was presented by a horse and it's rider alongside a man on a quad bike. For this adventure I was accompanied by yet another one of my lovely carers who's name is Debra (Debbie). Following the live show our day was filled with a menagerie of animals which included horses, lambs,  pigs, goats and the list goes on. There were lots of laughs, tasty food and it was a wonderful day for both of us. The best part of my day was when I had an encounter with a dingo who went by the name of Dundee he was so cute, cuddly, soft, and funny I wanted to keep him!! In preparation for Caloundra (2017)

Preparation Began - Preparation for this holiday started in late January early February of this year, when a friend of mine named Angela came over one afternoon to try and figure out what dates would fit in with her and my other carers we then came to the conclusion that the month of May would be the most suitable month, for everyone involved. Booking the Hotel  - The initial research for a hotel took place while my my mum was away on holiday at the end February. After refining my search down to 3 different hotels, the final decision was Breakfree Grand Pacific Caloundra! This hotel was the winner because it has all of the appropriate equipment needed to make my life easier, (More to come on my hotel experience in my next blog after my holiday.) Choosing a Carer - Next thing to check off the list was choosing a carer. When it comes to choosing my carer, it can sometimes be somewhat difficult depending on the location, but other times, such as this one, have been straight to ...

Hello!

Hello and welcome to my very first post on my blog! My name is Stephanie Collas and i'm 23 years young. I am in a wheelchair, as a result of having Cerebral Palsy from birth. I have started this blog due to my interest in travelling, and to help educate other people with disabilities on disabled accessible holiday destinations, to help take away some of the stress that can be involved, and give them some insight into my experiences. Such as; organisation before the holiday takes place, equipment that may be needed (e.g. shower chairs, lifters etc.) and attractions in areas that i'll be travelling to (as well as anything else that I might find useful to share!) My other interests include; animal photography, veterinary medicine, human medicine, story writing, Pokèmon, acting, TV producing and presenting, tennis, baseball, surfing, art, horse riding, disabled dancing. I will be taking off on an adventure to Caloundra next week, so my post about that should be up very soon...
